Description
English: Over the weekend of 2-3 December, a heavy snowstorm hit Munich, Germany's third-largest city. The storm brought a record-breaking amount of snow for a month of December, with almost half a metre of snowfall. This was also the heaviest snowstorm to affect the region since March 2006. As a result of the weather forecast for Tuesday 5 December, Munich Airport, Germany's second-largest airport, temporarily shut down on Monday night. Although air traffic is starting to return to normal, the city is still blanketed with snow. This image of Munich acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 7 December shows the massive amounts of snow that were still present around the city. The Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites enable the monitoring of snow-covered surfaces with high-resolution imaging.
