English: 18th century mammal and fish specimens. In 1780 Erikson Sparrman [1]was appointed keeper of the natural historical collections of the Academy of Sciences. These
specimens date from that time and are from Sparrman's own collection. Stockholm Quagga Foal from Cape Colonyin 1775.Brought to Sweden by Sparrman.An original mount of straw repaired with two hand-sized white leather patches which might be of a later date.
The Two-horned Rhinoceros was named by Linnaeus but redescribed by Sparmann.This is his specimen of a juvenile. A gar fish Lepisosteus[3] Fish described in Catalogue of the Museum Carlsonianum |
