Summary
editDescriptionHoliday Inn - geograph.org.uk - 211525.jpg |
English: Holiday Inn. Head back into Regency Square from Queensbury Mews then cross over Kings Road again before walk westwards. Between the white regency decor is a 1960s brutalist concrete monstrosity known as Bedford Towers. Prior to this the place was occupied by the Bedford Hotel, once one of the plushest hotels in Brighton and favoured by royalty and Charles Dickens who wrote Dombey & Son while staying there, see http://www.citylibraries.info/pictures/Photos/Pic02/01910.jpg . It was destroyed by fire in 1964 and while it was deemed possible to save the shell and rebuild the then owners decided to demolish and rebuild anew. The new structure was opened in 1967.
