Description

This town in the North of England became famous as the location of a long-running (37 years!), very popular, British TV series called "The last of the Summer wine". It chronicled the humorous adventures of a small group of retired men who looked for adventure and fun things to do. It was the world's longest-running sitcom.

Every episode included scenes shot in or nearby the town. Consequently many visitors and fans come to see the sights. For non-fans the town and surrounding area are interesting and scenic.

The cast came to love the town and area so much that two of the older members of the cast chose to be buried here, when that time came. Subsequently that is exactly what happened and they are buried side by side in a churchyard a short distance from the town centre.

PS I've just noticed that the black Volkswagen in the centre distance has a yellow parking ticket on it's windscreen. You can't avoid them! Click on the picture to zoom in.
