Description
English: Video provided by VOA's Mandarin service shows Hong Kong demonstrators spelling out protest slogans using paper folding cranes in Kowloon, across from Hong Kong Island, Sunday, October 13.

Hong Kong demonstrations scaled down over the weekend, as government officials increasingly categorize the protests as a threat to public safety and equate violence committed by activists with domestic terrorism.

Instead, protesters lined the balconies of a shopping mall in central Hong Kong, chanting "fight for freedom."

A group of senior citizens called the "Silver-Haired Marchers" held a weekend-long sit-in at police headquarters to show support for the predominately young protesters.

Demonstrators made paper 'origami' cranes in Kowloon, a shopping and entertainment district.

An expected rally in the Causeway Bay shopping district, that has seen marches in the tens of thousands for four months, did not happen.
