English: Hook Head lighthouse (1)
The tower of Hook Head lighthouse was built sometime about 1172 as an aid to navigation. It fell into disuse but was re-established in about 1667. It was powered by coal-gas from 1871, vapourised paraffin from 1911 and electricity from 1972. |
