| Description |
English: Hope Cement Works It may not be the most beautiful thing in the Peak District but at least it is not swallowing up ever greater areas of the countryside like the limestone industries at the other end of the National Park. This is the business end of the works. The tall tower like a Lego block contains hoppers from which weighed quantities of the ingredients of cement are dropped into the end of the kilns, the two horizontsl tubes stretching from the bottom of the tower. These slope gently from left to right and as they revolve the ingredients are heated and mixed and slowly slide down the length of the kiln to the building with conveyors on the right. There is a walkway beneath the kilns, a very nice wram spot on a cold and misty day! |
