Description
English: Wayside shrine Saint George and the Dragon (St.-Georg-Bildstock) in Hopsten, Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since 1986 it is listed as a cultural heritage monument.
Deutsch: Barocker St.-Georg-Bildstock, datiert 1771, an der Ecke Bunte Straße/Auf der Leuchtenburg in Hopsten, Kreis Steinfurt, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Der Bildstock besteht aus einem Sockel in vorspringender Sandsteinkartusche, darin befinden sih Inschrift und Datierung. Auf der Deckplatte steht die von geschweiften Voluten flankierte Reliefplatte. Diese zeigt den Heiligen Georg zu Pferde im Kampf gegen den Drachen. Den Abschluss bildet ein geschweiftes Giebelgesims mit steinerner Kugel samt Eisenkreuz. Das insgesamt qualitätvolle Werk von unbekannter Hand gehört zu dem barocken Typus des münsterschen Bildstockes. Das sakrale Denkmal steht seit 1986 unter Denkmalschutz.
