Description |
English: The Hotel Seattle was located near Pioneer Square, which was then the heart of Seattle's business district. The five-story brick and stone building had 200 rooms. It was close to the railroad depots, the docks, and the point where most of the city's streetcar lines started. The hotel was torn down in 1962 to make room for a parking garage. This photo shows the Hotel Seattle at the intersection of Yesler Way, James Street, and First Avenue. Caption on image: Intersection of Yesler Way and James Street, Seattle, Wash. Copyright 1903, by Lowman & Hanford S. & P. Co., Seattle. Handwritten on border: July 6 '06. Seattle Wash. Dear George: We arrived here this morning and we found them all right. I don't know just when we will be home. We had just a fine time in Coupeville and a good time the fourth. Did you make lots of money the fourth? With love. Besse. Postmarked July [...], 1906, from Seattle; one-cent stamp. Addressed to Mr. Geo. S. Miller in Bellingham, Wash. Caption by MOHAI staff.
