  • Subjects (LCTGM): Hotels--Washington (State)--Seattle
  • Subjects (LCSH): Hotel Washington (Seattle, Wash.); Grading (Earthwork)--Washington (State)--Seattle; Dwellings--Washington (State)--Seattle; First Avenue (Seattle, Wash.); Pine Street (Seattle, Wash.); Central business districts--Washington (State)--Seattle

The 1907 date cannot be correct. Compare File:Hotel Washington Annex under construction on the southeast corner of 2nd Ave and Stewart St, 1906 (SEATTLE 5877).jpg, dated 1906. The Hotel Washington Annex, later Gowman Hotel, opened for business March 1, 1907. The present picture shows construction on the Annex not yet begun and (in contrast to the clearly later photo of the Annex under construction) demolition of the old hotel not yet begun. Also, File:North view of 3rd Ave from Spring St showing regrade work, Seattle, Washington, October 10, 1906 (LEE 119).jpeg is very specifically dated; Lee, a city employee, was typically precise in dating his photos. So despite what University of Washington Libraries says, the present photo must be earlier than October 10, 1906. Conversely, it cannot be all that much earlier, given the regrading already under way.
