Description
English: Portrait of George Washington, miniature on ivory, by Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827). Front-facing bust portrait of George Washington. Said to have been painted by Peale for Washington about 1775 and presented by him to Mrs. Israel. Tradition says this was done in recognition of information given by her concerning British Army and its plans. Framed in brass? and glazed as oval pendant, with loop at top for hanging. Pendant is mounted to velvet backed board, set in wooden frame, 16 x 12 cm. Brass plaque inscribed: "C. W. Peale" mounted to velvet covered board. Verso of wooden frame inscribed: "Edwin B.
