English: House on River Avon once owned by J.Couch. This house set back from the river Avon has a date stone inscribed 'J. Couch 1840' and it is adorned with Masonic symbols. Between 1819 and 1839 John Couch's Hanham quarries produced walling stone, tombstones and paving slabs, and was shipped mainly by barges. The Riverside Cottages nearby were formerly known as Couch's Rank see 226077 |
