Summary
editDescriptionHugh llewelyn 4460 (5963069433).jpg | Southern Pacific Class "GS-6" "Daylight" 4-8-4 No.4460 built by Lima in 1943, at the National Museum of Transport, St Louis, 8/70. Baldwin built 74 "Daylights": 10 GS-1's in 1930 (plus 4 for it's subsidiary Texas & New Orleans RR), 6 GS-2's by Lima in 1936, 14 GS-3's by Lima in 1937, 28 GS-4's by Lima in 1941-42, 2 GS-5's by Lima in 1942, & 10 GS-6's by Lima in 1943. They were withdrawn 1954-58. Lima built 6 similar GS-64's in 1943 for the Western Pacific RR (withdrawn 1953-57) and 8 K's in 1943 for the Central of Georgia RR (withdrawn 1953). The "Daylights" must be amongst the very best US express passenger design. | |||||||||||||
