Adams-class guided missile destroyers the are seen in their final configuration, circa 1998. Both ships were partially converted to floating power plants. The ships were berthed at Mare Island, as the the conversion program had been cancelled. USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) is nearest to camera, an unidentified sister ship is behind her. Lynde McCormick had been sold to Consolidated Minerals on 20 June 1994 for conversion into a power barge. After the cancellation of the conversion she was returned to the U.S. Navy on 23 March 1999 and sunk as a target off California (USA) on 24 February 2001. |
