Description
English: The Hutchinson Public Library dates to 1874 when Asa B. Hutchinson donated two volumes of Dr. Kane's Arctic Explorations and a half lot of land to the cause of a free library. First housed in a back room of the Rideout and Hutchinson Drug Store, then combined with school library collections, it wasn't until 1901 that citizens voted to establish a free public library. In 1903 they again voted to accept $10,000 (later supplemented with $2,500) from Andrew Carnegie to build the library.
