Description

A Hyundai Verna subcompact (chassis code LC), which was marketed as the second-generation Hyundai Accent in North America. Small cars do not get much respect in South Korea, so the Verna is more likely to be doing fleet duty than serve as a privately owned family car, though this Verna appears to be a privately owned example.

The cross-shaped grille is reminiscent of Dodge grilles, for a good reason: Hyundai lacks official representation in Mexico, so Chrysler is the official Mexican importer of Hyundai automobiles, and the Verna was marketed in Mexico as the Dodge Verna. The cross-shaped grille was designed for the Mexican Dodge Verna, and the Dodge grille (though with the Hyundai oval H) was an available option for the Korean domestic market Verna.

To the left is a mid-1990s Sonata, known as Sonata II in the Korean domestic market and referred by the chassis code Y3 by the Hyundai fanatics. The facelifted Y3 of the late 1990s was known as the Sonata III.
