Description
Nederlands: Op de terreinen aan de Drongensesteenweg in Gent waar vroeger het textielveredelingsbedrijf Alsberge-Van Oost nv was gevestigd, is er nu een woonwijk aangelegd. In 1978 sluit de fabriek en 30 jaren lang staan de gebouwen leeg. De vervallen fabriek doet dienst voor tijdelijke initiatieven en het stadsbestuur overweegt om er twee jonge Gentse musea, SMAK en MIAT, een definitieve stek te geven. In de jaren 1990 passeren nog allerhande mogelijke bestemmingen. Van een IKEA-vestiging over een golfterrein tot een nieuw voetbalstadion. Uiteindelijk wordt het een nieuwe woonwijk. Ook het omliggende groengebied van 20 hectare wordt heringericht. Van de oorspronkelijke blekerij voor linnenweefsel blijft niets meer over. De machinekamer met stoommachine is bewaard gebleven, maar wacht nog op restauratie. De bakstenen gebouwen die dienst deden als vouwafdeling en weefselblekerij werden gerestaureerd.
