Summary edit

Description
English: This image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites on 14 May 2021, shows Iceberg A-76 in Antarctica. Iceberg A-76 recently calved from the western side of the Ronne Ice Shelf in the Weddell Sea. With an area of about 4160 km2, a length of 160 km on its longest axis and a width of 26 km on its widest axis, it is currently, according to the U.S. National Ice Center, the largest iceberg in the world. The Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission consists of twin satellites equipped with a SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) instrument that provides data that is not affected by the presence of clouds, or by the long seasonal polar nights. They are therefore particularly useful for monitoring drifting icebergs, and calving phenomena.
