DescriptionIdaho Recovery Act Workers Complete Last of Nine Transuranic Waste Transfers (7631775522).jpg |
A rattlesnake temporarily disrupted what had been a normally smooth operation when it coiled itself in the wheel spokes of a pickup truck. It then slithered into the sagebrush and work resumed promptly. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act workers successfully transferred 21 containers of transuranic waste — each weighing up to 15 tons — to a facility for repackaging and shipment to a permanent disposal location. With the help of nearly $90 million from the Recovery Act, the workers recently completed the ninth and final shipment of the containers from the Materials and Fuels Complex to the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center (INTEC). |
