Fotografia Ignacego Płażewskiego wykonana przed 1951 r. przedstawiająca od strony wschodniej teren dawnego Litzmannstadt Getto, na którym powstał park Staromiejski. W tle widoczne są pałac Izraela Kalmanowicza Poznańskiego oraz zabudowania fabryczne. Ten fragment miasta, który w trakcie II wojny światowej został najbardziej zniszczony, przed 1939 r. zamieszkiwany był przede wszystkim przez ludność żydowską. Dalsze wyburzenia odbyły się już po 1945 r., a na powstałym pustym placu postanowiono założyć park miejski. Park Staromiejski powstał w latach 1951-1953 wg projektu inż. K. Chrabelskiego, potocznie zwany jest Parkiem Śledzia. Ta nazwa związana jest z funkcjonowaniem w tym miejscu przed II wojną światową składu i targu rybnego. |
