Mandado construir pelo Conde de Castelo Melhor, no século XVII, em cumprimento de um voto, este edifício de estilo barroco é da autoria do Arquiteto Régio João Antunes. De sólida e ampla construção, apresenta uma fachada bem proporcionada e de majestosa imponência. No seu interior concentramos de imediato a nossa atenção no retábulo de pétreas colunas salomónicas, na capela-mor. De realçar ainda o belíssimo retábulo em pedra de Ançã, do renascimento português, atribuído a João de Ruão, originário da destruída Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo. Tradicionalmente associada às seculares Festas do Bodo e à grandiosa Procissão em Honra de Nossa Senhora do Cardal que atrai anualmente milhares de devotos.
