The alligator, which is found more orless plentifully in all parts of the Chagres and its tributaries,and the adjacent streams and swamps, frequently attacksand destroys dogs and cattle, and occasional instances haveoccurred where the natives, imprudently venturing into thewaters infested with them, have fallen a prey to their ra-pacity.
