Text Appearing Before Image: the Deseret Sunday SchoolUnion Board and chairman of theChurch Auditing Committee, a sketchof whose life to the close of 1920 ispublished in the L. D. S. Biograph-ical Encyclopedia, Vol. 3, p. 501, wascalled in 1927 to succeed Elder B. H.Roberts as president of the EasternStates Mission. After his return homein 1929, he resided in Los Angeles,Calif., where he died Jan. 8, 1936. Hisremains were brought to Ogden forinterment, where impressive serviceswere held, presided over by Pres. He-ber J. Grant. ROSS, Charles J., a member of thegeneral board of the Deseret SundaySchool Union, since 1919, was bornFeb. 28, 1867, in Salt Lake City, a sonof James D. and Sarah E. Ross. Hewas baptized when about eight yearsold, ordained to the Aaronic Priest-hood, served as a counselor in a Dea-cons Quorum, and later was ordained an Elder by Apostle John W. Taylor.On April 11, 1892, he was ordained aSeventy by B. H. Roberts and becamea member of the 77th Quorum of Sev-enty. He was ordained a High Priest Text Appearing After Image: by Lorenzo Farr and served as sec-retary of a High Priests Quorum inthe Weber Stake. He also served onthe Weber Stake Sunday SchoolBoard, becoming 1st assistant to Su-perintendent Thomas B. Evans, andwas a member of the Weber StakeHigh Council. He was instrumentalin organizing the Weber Stake Tab-ernacle Choir and acted as presidentand manager of that organization forover twenty-five years. In this periodhe arranged tours for the choir to theLewis and Clark Exposition at Port-land, Oregon, and to California at theopening of the Irrigation Congi-esswhen they sang the magnificent Ir-rigation Ode, composed by Prof. JohnJ. McClelland and published under thedirection of Bro. Ross. The WeberStake Choir also sang at other greatfairs at San Diego and San Francisco.In 1897 Elder Ross married Isabell H.Salmon, now a counselor in the gen-eral board of the Primaiy Association,Bro.
