Text Appearing Before Image: ughes); Bodehuyddan^ the fine castle and demesne of Sir Hugh Williams,Bart.; Pengicern, the ancient seat of the Mostyns, now of the Hon. Thomas Pryce Lloyd ;Bodr/iyddan, the venerable seat of the Conways—lately possessed by the Hon. Mrs. Rowley,deceased, although in the Vale of Clwyd, and some of them west of the river, are all in thecounty of Flint, and will be further noticed under the families of that county. The arrangement which in early times fixed the boundaries of Flintshire, following, itmay be presumed, the limits already assigned to the ancient Tegeingl, took for that countya good slice of the marsh and fertile slopes to the west of the Clwyd, including the demesnesof Pengwern and Bodelwyddan, as well as the town and district of St. Asaph ; but it left tothe cantref of Rhyvoniog, ultimately a part of Denbighshire, the valuable manor of Kinmel,now the seat of Hugh Robert Hughes, Esq., who succeeded at Kinmel and Dinorben thelate Lord Dinorben. Near Abergele is Fentreinawr, sunounded by extensive and park-like grounds, theproperty and residence of Mrs. Jones-Bateman ; and on the higher slopes in the immediatevicinity is the spacious park of Gwrych Castle—a castellated mansion of peculiar and im-posing outline, built among the craggy steeps of Cefn Ogof. (See Hesketh of GwrycJi Castle.) To the interior, in the heart of the ancient Rhyvoniog, and in the ancient comots ofUwch Aled and Is Aled, are GartJiewin (see Wy7ine of Gartheivin); Dyffryn A led (seeYorke of Dyffryn Aled) ; Htfodunos (H. R. Sanbach, Esq.) ; Coed Coih (see Wynne of CoedCoeh); and at a distance to the south, near the river Conwy, is the ancient mansion ofVoelas, the seat of Charles Wyiine-Finch, Esq.
