English: In the driving seat - Cross Keys Bridge The three highly polished "signal box" levers can be used to operate the oil hydraulic power systems to swing the bridge but their use is largely reserved for special occasions. The bridge is normally operated by mouse and keyboard with fully computerised sequencing and interlocking. It is possible to perform "illegal" operations under manual control. This kit is in the little cabin at the top of the bridge and can be visited on Heritage Open Days. I remember when the bridge was operated by water hydraulics with none of this computerised stuff. |
