KALAN AT BANGA, is a huge jar or claypot and a landmark in City of Calamba, Laguna.

Summary

edit
Description
English: The Banga or jar has a relation to the legend of the city's name. According to the historians, it was started when two Spanish soldiers got lost and passed in the said place presently named Calamba. The soldiers came across a girl carrying a jar of water and stove and they asked what is it. The lady, however, who only spoke her native dialect, thought they were inquiring about what she was carrying and uttered nervously the words “kalan-banga,” which means clay stove for “kalan” and water jar for “banga.” The Spanish soldiers had difficulty pronouncing it and called it Calamba instead. The Banga is the memoir of the said legend. It’s also known as the “World’s largest Claypot” and also included in the city’s seal (Calamba History,Philippines).
