Summary edit

Description

The distinctive, traditional yak-wool tent of the Chang-pa nomadic people found through Tibet and this south-eastern region of Ladakh, part of the Changthang Plateau that stretches into western Tibet.

Low and flat to resist the fierce winds, the tents are built around dug out and rock-walled depressions that stand visible once the tent and structures move on. These days though, some nomad families have switches to white parachute tents designed either with similar square design or circular yurt style.
