Summary
editDescriptionIndustrial Uses (3853623272).jpg | The Duwamish River remains a heavily used waterway for barges and other industrial traffic. Efforts to clean up and restore the river will have to consider many different, sometimes competing, uses. Visit www.epa.gov/region10/duwamish to learn more about EPA's efforts to clean up and restore the lower Duwamish River. |

Image title | Industrial uses along the shores of the Duwamish River combined with oily run-off from cars are partially to blame for the high levels of toxic pollution found in the waters. In 2001, the lower Duwamish was placed on the EPA's National Priority List and listed as a Superfund site. Each year, the Duwamish River Festival is held to celebrate ongoing river cleanup and restoration efforts. For more information, go to http://www.duwamishcleanup.org.
