Summary
editDescriptionInside Bou Inania Madrasa.jpeg |
Inside the Bou Inania Madrasa looking from the courtyard toward the mihrab, the niche indicating the qibla or direction to Mecca, inside the restricted mosque area. The madrasa (Islamic school) was founded in the mid-14th century. The decoration is composed of the three traditional elements of intricate mosaic tilework, carved stucco, and carved cedar. High in the background are stained-glass windows. Fez was founded in 789. It has been the Moroccan capital at various times in its history, with the most recent period ending in 1925 when the capital was moved to Rabat. The Medina of Fez became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. On Google Earth: Bou Inania Medrasa 34° 3'43.66"N, 4°58'58.24"W |
