Summary edit

Description
English: Inside Kilmainham If the interior seems familiar it is because this museum has been rented out to many film and TV companies where access to a 'real' working prison has been denied. These include The Italian Job (with Noel Coward), In The Name of The Father and Michael Collins. Opened in 1796, the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were held here before being executed in the courtyard adjacent. The building fell into disrepair in 1924 after being abandoned by the government of the Irish Free State. Its part in Ireland's history is now recognised. The OPW (Office of Public Buildings & Works) restored it as a museum.
