Summary edit

Description Kady Brownell, an engraving by George Edward Perine. Published in Moore, Frank, 1828-1904. Women of the War: Their Heroism And Self-sacrifice. Hartford, Conn.: S. S. Scranton & co., 1866. Note: In March, we are celebrating Women’s History Month through #artifactoftheweek. Did you know that many women served in the army during the American Civil War? In 1861, Kady Brownell joined the Rhode Island regiment of the Union Amy with her husband, Robert S. Brownell. As the Daughter of the Regiment and color bearer, Kady trained with the soldiers, fought in battles, and cared for the injured. More stories of women fighters are told in the 1866 publication, “Women of the War: Their Heroism and Self-sacrifice.” #specialcollections #womenshistorymonth #americancivilwar #civilwarhistory - via Instagram ift.tt/2mx7GNw
