English: The building "Chitrabhanu" was built by Late Rathindranath Tagore and his wife Late Pratima (Devi) Tagore in 1943. They lived in this house for a long time. The love Rabindranath Tagore harboured within himself for Kalimpong, manifested as Chitrabhanu. A quaint cottage located at Atisha Road of Kalimpong town, the house was conceptualised as Tagore's abode in the hill station. The land was identified by Kobiguru himself and leased in the name of his daughter-in-law, Pratima Devi.

The name of the structure being derived from Tagore's son, Rathindranath's studio in Shantiniketan. 'Chitrabhanu' hosted Pratima Devi during a prolonged period of her life when she intended to impart training on arts and crafts to the people of the hills for their selfdevelopment and self-employment. The house boasts within itself several belongings of the Tagore family, memories of the Poet Laureate and his kin, including handiworks by the Kobiguru himself. In 1962, the ownership of the house was transferred to Government of West Bengal to run training programmes for the people of the hills.

The building has been listed as a "Heritage" building by the West Bengal Heritage Commission in 2018. The building had suffered heavy damages during the devastating earthquake in 2011. Restoration has been done keeping the original architecture unchanged by Technical Education, Training & Skill Development Department, Government of West Bengal through Public Works Department.
