Ipswich bobbin lace bobbins whittled from bamboo or wood
Summary
editDescriptionIpswich Bobbins.jpg |
English: Each thread is wound around the neck of a bobbin before being used to make bobbin lace. The bobbins made and used in Ipswich, MA in the 18th century were whittled from bamboo or local wood or reeds. They have a very smooth, long handle and a short whittled indentation for the thread below the head, which is the same size as the shaft or handle of the bobbin |
