Ipswich Town Hall. Built in 1867-68 to designs by Bellamy and Hardy of Lincoln. A yellow stone building in Baroque revival style with pink pilasters, columns and dressings and a balustraded parapet with has 4 female standing figures representing Commerce, Agriculture, Law and Order and Justice. A stone dome, above, is surmounted by stone clock tower and cupola. The centre portion with three windows projects forward with an arcade of [[Corithian order|Corinthian columns on the first storey and a Roman Doric Colonade with vermiculatedrustication at ground level. In the centre portion below the parapet are three roundel figure heads of King Richard I, Cardinal Wolsey and King John decorates the front wall. King Richard I promised the town its first charter but died before it was granted, King John granted the town's charter and Cardinal Wolsey was the most famous person in Ipswich’s history.
