Summary edit

Description
English: Iron rich water, St Monans Red staining where a small burn flows onto a beach. The red colour is a waste product of bacteria. The bacteria live by using energy released when Iron(II) ions are further oxidised to Iron(III), one of the reactions in rusting. Water rich in Iron(II) is issuing from a spring, either as mineral rich water or draining an old mine. The orange stuff is harmless, except that like rust it stains.
