Summary edit

Description
English: Jandia and the Istmo de la Pared seen from the Mirador Astronómico de Sicasumbre.
Originally the northern part of Fuerteventura (Maxorata) and the southern part (Jandia) were two seperated Islands. By the uplift of the seafloor between the two islands, they are now conneced. This connection, covered with dunes of sand, originating from seashells, is now the Istmo de la Pared. Caused by the former isolation of Jandia, there exist a series of endemic species, with are restricted to this peninsula (especially in the region of the summit of the Pico de la Zarza) and are not found in the larger, northern part Maxorata.
The picture shows the view from Maxorata to Jandia with the connecting Istmo de la Pared, which is charcterized by the white sand dunes (also well visible in satellite images of this region, e.g. Google maps).
