Title
Tsuba with Openwork Fan and New Years Decorations
Description
English: The primary motif on this tsuba is an openwork fan in the center of the body. The area left open by the fan also incorporates the opening for the hair pick and utility knife. Pine boughs, which are part of New Year's decorations, are depicted along the bottom of the tsuba. On the reverse is an umbrella. There is also a hollyhock crest. This crest was a symbol of the ruling Tokugawa family and was used by the Shimosaka Yasutsugu line of metalworkers with Tokugawa permission.
