Jökulsárgljúfur canyon in northern Iceland

Summary

edit
Description

Viewpoint overlooking the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon in northern Iceland. The Hafragilsfoss is a 27 m high waterfall of the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, about 2 km downstream from the Dettifoss.

The source of the river is the Vatnajökull glacier, from where it flows to the north into the Greenland sea. The canyon was formed during catastrophic glacial floodings following volcanic activity that took place only a few thousand years ago.
