| Description | Dendromecon harfordii—Channel Island tree poppy. Grows only on the Channel Islands. Specimens from the mainland labeled D. harfordii are almost certainly D. rigida. In cultivation since the 19th century, the current drought has led many water agencies to promote the species as a water-saving plant. It is true that it needs little (almost none) summer water but it grows best in areas where the marine layer is a constant friend. Flowers can be found on trees for most of the year with the heaviest displays from April through July.
