Description
Deutsch: Der Hauptbahnhof war der Ausgangspunkt und auch das Zentrum des Eisenbahnnetzes von Uruguay, das in seinen guten Zeiten nicht nur das gesamte Land erschloss, sondern auch Verbindungen in die Nachbarländer aufwies. 1988 wurde jedoch der gesamte Reiseverkehr in Uruguay eingestellt. Zwar gibt es seit 1993 wieder einen Rumpfbetrieb bis 25 de Agosto, doch wurden die Hochbauten 1998 an eine Hypothekenbank verkauft, die die Eisenbahnverwaltung 2003 an die Luft setzte. Aus dem Umbau zu einem Einkaufszentrum wurde nichts, der Hauptbahnhof ist seitdem eingezäunt und ungenutzt.
