Description

This 2001-vintage Boeing 737 is in service with JANET, a US Air Force "airline" that is in charge of ferrying workers between their jobs at Groom Lake ("Area 51") and their homes in Las Vegas. The JANET fleet, distinguished by a plain white livery with red cheatline, consisted of the Boeing 737-200 until the -600s entered service in 2008 and 2009.

Like all Boeing 737-600s in the JANET fleet, this one was a former Air China example; registration at Air China was B-2155.

Groom Lake, about 150 miles directly northwest of Las Vegas, is a top-secret US military base whose very existence was denied until 1995. It is home to many classified research projects, some of which have led to stealth aircraft for the Air Force among other things. A popular conspiracy theory holds that there was a UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, and the UFO wreckage and the alien remains are being analyzed at Groom Lake so that advanced alien technology can be reverse-engineered.

Aircraft is landing on Runway 1L at McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas. I am at the Silverton Lodge & Casino parking area, which is right under the approach path for 1R.
