Description
English: INTERIOR VIEW; HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1840-41 BY JOSE MARIA CASTRO, PREFECT OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. CASTRO PARTICIPATED IN 2 REVOLTS AGAINST MEXICAN GOVERNORS, THE 2ND OF WHICH RESULTED IN THE GOVERNOR'S DEPOSITION. IN 1848 THE BREEN'S PURCHASED THE HOUSE. THE ELDER BREEN'S WERE SURVIVORS OF THE DONNER PARTY AND ARRIVED IN SAN JUAN PENNILESS. HOWEVER ONE OF THEIR SON'S FOUND GOLD IN THE MOUNTAINS AND THE FAMILY PROSPERED
