Vor 1945 wurde das Gefängnis Landberg auch Festung Landberg (Festungshaft) genannt: Das gezeigte Gebäude stammt aus dem Jahre 1908. Die Anstalt wurde 1908 durch Ausgliederung von Teilen des Gefängnisses Ebrach als Staatliche Gefangenenanstalt Landsberg a. Lech nach Plänen von Hugo Höfl in zurückhaltend klassizierendem Jugendstil erbaut. 1923 bis 1924 verbüßte Adolf Hitler hier 264 Tage Festungshaft und schreib hier seine Weltanschauung im Buch "Mein Kampf" nieder.
