«Les flèches jumelles de cette énorme sculpture en acier inoxydable reluisant se dressent au-dessus de la cour anglaise devant la station du métro. Cette oeuvre s'ouvre à la fois à de diverses interprétations. D'abord, au niveau purement formel, sa verticalité complémente l'étendue horizontale de l'édicule de la station et du terminus d'autobus, pendant que les lignes intérieures de la sculpture reprennent les formes géométriques du bâtiment. Au niveau symbolique, cette oeuvre rappelle l'ancienne présence à cet endroit d'un marécage, élément auquel fait également référence la cour anglaise surbaissée. On pourrait donc voir dans ses formes élancées, les roseaux de son titre, ou une libellule, ou encore un oiseau échassier comme un héron ou un butor (avec un écho voulu de l'Oiseau dans l'espace de Brancusi). On pourrait également y apercevoir des mâts d'un navire qu'est l'édicule de la station. Enfin, l'oeuvre possède une forte valeur fonctionnelle ou signalétique, comme quoi qu'elle affiche devant ce carrefour fort achalandé la présence de la station de métro. Le titre reprend un dicton des Pensées de Blaise Pascal, où dit le savant : « L'homme n'est qu'un roseau, le plus faible de la nature; mais c'est un roseau pensant. Il ne faut pas que l'univers entier s'arme pour l'écraser : une vapeur, une goutte d'eau, suffit pour le tuer. Mais, quand l'univers l'écraserait, l'homme serait encore plus noble que ce qui le tue, puisqu'il sait qu'il meurt, et l'avantage que l'univers a sur lui, l'univers n'en sait rien. » Cette oeuvre a été financée par le programme 1% pour l'art lors de la construction de la station de métro Cartier.» <a href="http://www.metrodemontreal.com/art/jarnuszkiewicz/metro-f.html" rel="nofollow">www.metrodemontreal.com/art/jarnuszkiewicz/metro-f.html</a> |
