Description
English: Looking towards the parking lot from the central mall of Jacob Riis Park, near the Marine Parkway Bridge east of Beach 169th Street in Rockaway, Queens. The mall is nearly identical to that of Orchard Beach in the Bronx, both built in the 1930s by Robert Moses. Both malls feed into a pair of horseshoe-shaped mall buildings, and then into a crescent-shaped beach. The Riis Park mall was designed to line up with the Empire State Building, providing a very distant view. However, because it doesn't really lead to anything at the north end, and because it contains no benches, it is largely ignored by beachgoers.
