Description
English: Jaffa, Israel - Old Jaffa Visitor Center

Door from Burial Cave This stone door was used to seal the entrance to a jewish burial cave. It is hewn from sandstone and was uncovered, in secondary use, in the excavations of Tanhum Street. Two incised, diagonal lines are discernable on the stone surface and an incised menorah is visible in the upper section with a groove, probably carved to fit the locking mechanism, seen in the middle. This door likely originated from the jewish cemetery discovered at Abu Kabir where dozens of burial caves dating to the Late Roman and Byzantine

periods were discovered.
