Single Leaf from Akbarnama by Abu Fazl |

Description |
English: This single leaf, Walters W.874, depicting the scene of a fatal quarrel over a prostitute comes from a manuscript of Akbarnamah (a biography of the Mughal Emperor Akbar [reigned 963 AH/AD 1556-1014 AH/AD 1605]) by his prime minister Abu al- Fazl ibn Mubarak (died 1011 AH/AD 1602). It was produced in Mughal India at the end of the 10th century AH/AD 16th. The work is pasted (like Walters W.684) on a leaf from Farhang-i Jahangiri (a Persian-language dictionary) by Jamal al-Din Husayn Inju Shirazi (died 1035 AH/AD 1625-1626). The text is written in black Nasta'liq script with lemmata in red. |
