Description

James Frank and Margaret Haptonstall McCoy were both born in Ohio in the early 1830's. It has been said James belonged to the McCoy clan of the noted Hatfield-McCoy feud. James and Margaret came to this area in 1876 and spent their first winter in Farmington, Washington. James found a homestead on what is now the town of Oakesdale and built their home (which is still in use). The McCoys donated land for the town, thus being the founder of Oakesdale.
