First part of James McCudden series: Early years James Thomas Byford McCudden was born 28 March 1895, in Gillingham, Kent, a little town with c. 3,000 inhabitants, to Sergeant-Major William H. McCudden and Amelia Byford. Soon, his parents and five siblings moved to Sheerness, Kent, where he was transferred to a garrison school. There, working as a Post Office messenger boy, was mesmerised by aviation. McCudden then joined the Royal Engineers in 1910, to the age of 15. Having an interest in mechanics, he was transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in 1913. One year after, the outbreak of the The Great War made his dream possible, and creating a wing legend at the same level as the Red Baron. I have to incredibly thank @pilots.life.for.me for all the support in this series, and the enormous interest she has shown in the figure of James McCudden. All these pictures are her suggestions. As a curious fact, this picture had watermarks. Everywhere. I had to restore it and remove them.
