Summary
editDescriptionJapan 12082023 (MODIS).jpg |
English: It’s beginning to look a lot like winter on the island of Honshu, Japan.
On December 6, 2023, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the center of Honshu which showed an extensive cap of snow atop the mountains that run parallel to the Sea of Japan. The iconic Mount Fuji, sitting north of the Izo Peninsula which juts into the Pacific Ocean, is also topped with snow. The city of Tokyo, the largest city and capital of Japan, appears to remain snow-free. It can be seen as a large area of gray pixels along the western coast of Tokyo Bay and east of Mt. Fuji. |
